Kris Alden, M.D.

Philosophy

I think the critical bottom line with respect to my views on orthopaedic surgery is to relieve pain and restore function. Whether the problem is a worn out hip or knee, a fractured hip, a torn meniscus in the knee, or a painful total joint arthroplasty, the essential element behind what I would like to accomplish for my patients is to relieve pain and get them back doing the things that they want to do. The approach to this pathway is variable and may not necessarily entail surgery. Treatment may begin, depending on the patient and the underlying problem, with pain medications, physical therapy, or as a last resort, surgical intervention. I look at my role as a partner with the patient, counselor, and facilitator to help them achieve their goals whatever that may be.
